Running and Staying

Analogue film, 2021

“The psyches and souls of women also have their own cycles and seasons of doing and solitude, running and staying, being involved and being removed, questing and resting, creating and incubating, being of the world and returning to the soul-place.”

- Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés

Running and Staying is a photographic series which builds upon my thesis research: exploring how females relate to each other, the world, and their own bodies amid the affects of religious ideologies, purity culture, and patriarchal influence. Inspired by the words of Clarissa Pinkola Estés in her book Women Who Run With The Wolves, this series involves working with contrasting concepts of being and the complexities of the female soul which are too often suppressed in mainstream female representation.
