Created in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Master of Fine Arts degree at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Finding The Pieces is a photographic series that utilizes two contrasting methods of production (staged narrative on large format film and informal compositions on specialized 35mm film) to portray a gathering of young women in a secluded cabin in the woods. This series alludes to the presence of nature and its connection to womanhood, however the focus is on the interior cabin environment which acts as a sanctuary that allows the women to exist outside the constraints of performative, conditioned behaviour, offering insight into the vulnerabilities and intimacies of the female experience.
